From his Texas Hill Country studio near Johnson City, Italian artist Benini creates paintings brilliant acrylics and dancing illusions of dimensionality on canvas over flat aluminum shaped to the contour of the compositions. These, and paintings by Italian artist Renzo Galardini are featured in the 14,000 sq. ft. Studios Building. The 140-acre ranch (once owned by President L.B.Johnson) features large-scale contemporary sculpture from artists around the country and abroad.

My work is about color, shape and form. Before the blowing process begins I compose a "picture" using glass components that I have made before hand. The juxtaposition of colors and shapes is all important. I think of it as the inevitability of one color being next to another. The idea that there is no other place for that little red square or blue dot than exactly where it is.
