From modest beginnings in three rooms at the downtown YMCA in 1923, South Texas has grown into one of the largest private law schools in the country. Texas Wesleyan University School of Law is fully approved by the American Bar Association (ABA). Texas Wesleyan University is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and masters level degrees, and the juris doctor degree.

The Tarlton Law Library is the fifth largest academic law library in the country with 936,000 volumes. The present building, Jesse H. Jones Hall, opened in 1980 and is the largest academic law library building in the country with over 167,000 square feet of floor space. The Library serves an academic community of 1500 full-time law students and 100 faculty members.
