A city rich in Texas history and Hispanic culture, San Antonio is home to a wide range of traditions that can't be found anywhere else in Texas, such as Fiesta San Antonio and the Riverwalk. It's only natural then that San Antonio real estate shares much of the same vivacity and history of the city itself, a fact that becomes apparent as soon as one begins to shop around. The majority of San Antonio homes for sale were built several decades ago, particularly those near the two main Catholic universities, St. Mary's University and Incarnate Word. These historical institutions, along with the Missions, were once the focal point of the town, so it's no surprise that a great deal of San Antonio Texas real estate lies near these two sites. Some of the older gems of San Antonio real estate might require a bit more maintenance than their newer, fancier counterparts, but they have a dignity and style that is unmatched by any modern home in the hearts of a native Texan. For those looking to own or rent their own little piece of San Antonio real estate, there are plenty of apartments and homes in all price ranges and numerous locations surrounding the universities, medical center and historic downtown, where the famous Alamo Mission still stands open to visitors. However, the majority of San Antonio homes for sale (as well as apartments) are very affordable, even to the first time homebuyer or student just getting out of college, making it one of the best places in Texas to buy your first home.
