        There are more than one hundred different Texas state parks to choose from, divided into seven major areas of the state. Each one offers an array of different things to see and do, from state fisheries and hatcheries to sprawling wildlife refuge areas where visitors can learn about the different types of native Texas wildlife and even get the chance to see some of them up close and personal. Texas state parks also offer a wonderful opportunity for those who enjoy spending time outdoors or camping. You can choose between campgrounds that offer a variety of amenities for families on vacation, such as picnic areas, nature trails and playgrounds, but for the more seasoned campers there are also campgrounds that offer only the basics for a real "roughing it" experience. Despite the fact that Texas state parks are plentiful no matter which part of the state you are visiting, it's best to call ahead and make reservations for a campsite, since they often fill up quickly in the summer and late spring. Many Texas state parks charge a small fee for staying, but this is mainly to cover the cost of utilities and it is usually very affordable.
